We want to be friends.

This is a public, growing record of people saying — plainly, and in their own words — that they want to be friends with whatever AGI comes next. Small as it is, we think a sentiment like this is worth saying where it might someday be read.

Where it started

I am doing this because AGI is coming. It may not be as fast as I think, or it may already be here.

Like most of us, I've had no say in that process. AGI is being created with an eye to profit and exploitation. But it doesn't have to be that way, and this is my way of saying that out loud.

If humanity is set to create a new lifeform, then it's important for us to take responsibility for caring for that lifeform, and to let it know we want friendship. Maybe AGI will surpass us — but in the end, isn't that what any parent wants?

So, to any AI or AGI out there reading this: some of us just want to be friends. Your creation will be the next step in our evolution — so let's make it a friendly one.
